Four functions of any introduction : Catch the audience’s attention Reveal the topic to the audience Establish credibility with the audience Preview the speech for the audience Rhetorical question is a question, used for effect, that the audience isn’t supposed to answer out loud but rather in their own minds. Preview is a brief overview in the introduction of a speech of each of the main points in the speech. Conclusion has two primary goals: Bring your speech to an end Reinforce your thesis statement Summary : A summary is a concise restatement of your main points at the end of your speech. Rhetorical questions : question, used for effect, that an audience isn’t supposed to answer out loud but rather in their own minds. Preview : brief overview in the introduction of a speech of each of the main points in the speech.
