Contributions Inventor Scientist Businessman Timeline 1847- Thomas Edison was born on February 11 in Milan, Ohio. 1859- At twelve years old, Edison worked for the Grand Trunk Railroad, where he created a chemistry lab in the train. 1868- Thomas Edison’s first patent was for the electric vote recorder, which was not too successful on the market. 1870- Thomas Edison moved to New Jersey and set up his own factory that made inventions. Due to this action and many inventions, Thomas Edison became known as the Wizard of Menlo Park. 1871- On Christmas Day, Thomas gets married to Mary Stillwell, one of his employees in New Jersey. 1880-1883- Edison worked hard to spread his electricity to the public,
