Eulia Drivas Hum 3321 Midterm Essay Colorblindness is defined as a  disregard of racial characteristics when selecting which individuals will participate in some activity or receive some service. One of the first thing we notice when we meet someone along with their sex is their race. We use this first encounter as a clue to figure out who a person is (169). In the book under Racial Formation as Everyday Experience an example of using this clue was making comments such as “funny, you don’t look black.” When we first see someone we expect them to act as their race, we don’t see them for themselves we see them at first glance as their color. Colorblindness happens everyday, its an idea that we unconsciously “notice” race. When we see someone who “isn’t acting their race” we become disoriented by it. Examples   include,   a   white   kids   rapping,   assuming   that   all   non-whites   are   servants   or tradespeople. Or non-colleagues are less qualified people to hire because of racial stereotypes.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
