Cultural Diversity 2 Brief Overview of Organization and my role The organization that I will be focusing on is Komatsu America Corporation. Komatsu America Corporation is an American subsidiary of a Japanese based company. The American headquarters is located in Illinois with several locations throughout the United States and Canada. The company produces heavy equipment machinery. The company has several department from Assembly, Shipping, Purchasing, and Shared services. For the past 2 years, I have worked as an accounts payable coordinator in the Shared Services division in Chattanooga, Tennessee. My role is to process invoices for payments and handle vendor questions and concerns. Preliminary Problem Statement Researchable Question: How to handle language barriers and cultural differences to decrease delays in processing. Narrative Description of Organizational Problem

Unformatted text preview: Every day, we process hundreds of invoices which have to have a 3 way match. When the match is perfect it works great. However, when there is a mismatch there is a major delay in processing due to language barriers and etc. On stuff that has to be signed off on by a manager because it is not on a purchase order it can be even more difficult. For example, I had an employee reimbursement that my supervisor signed off on which was within his limits but because it was an reimbursement it had to go to his boss, then to his boss, then to human resources at headquarters, then to the vice president of Human resources, then to the Chattanooga Cultural Diversity 3 Human resources, the back to me for Shared Services to process. We also deal with Komatsu Japan and Komatsu China which is where the cultural differences really show.
