Zheng Zhong English Composition II Professor Kenneth Rose 12 June 2013 The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe 1. What can you tell about the narrator in this story? What effect does this narrator have on how we understand what is happening? In this story we have what is known as central narrator. One of the main characters – Montresor, is also a narrator. Montresor tells the story from his own perspective. He seems cold, cruel, brutal, devious, and revengeful. Montresor does not mind, au contraire he even enjoys talking about how he tortured and eventually killed Fortunato. He seems satisfied with what he did, and this almost creates the effect that reader starts thinking Fortunato really did something extremely bad and he deserved to die. 2. Choose one of the main characters in the story. What can we learn about this character from the details given in the story? Does the character change from the beginning to end of the story? Is this a positive or negative character – and how do you know from this story? Give details.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
