MGT 3050 WK 6 Homework Daft, ORGANIZATION THEORY Use quotation(s) from Daft (2010) to document each response. Use APA style to cite quotations in the body of your responses. Attach an APA style reference page and the grading rubric Ch. 10 Organizational Culture and Ethical Values Chapter ten explores the cultural and ethical values of organizations: A. the nature of corporate culture, its origins, and purpose, B. how to identify and interpret culture through ceremonies, stories and symbols, AND C. how culture reinforces strategy and structural design. 1. For an organization you are familiar with (e.g., an employer, a store you go to often, your university, a religious organization, an online group, etc.) show how its culture is manifested in 4 of the ways described in Ch. 10 (e.g., rites, ceremonies, stories, myths, symbols, organizational structures, power relationships, and control systems). Daft defines culture in our textbook as “the set of values, norms, guiding beliefs, and understandings that is shared by members of an organization and taught to new members” (Daft, 2010, p.374). At Bank of America, the culture is manifested in several ways. In particular, the bank uses different types of rites and ceremonies to illustrate company values. They have a strong desire to show employees how much they are appreciated. Every quarter, top managers hold an employee appreciation celebration to acknowledge top achievements, promotions, birthdays, and anniversaries. As described in our textbook,

these meetings give the employees good feelings about the company (Daft, 2010, p.377). The bank also uses symbols to show employees that they are important. When an employee reaches a service anniversary milestone, managers give them cornerstone paperweights engraved with the milestone year. This symbolism makes them feel like they are the foundation or rock of the company.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
