Module 2 – Economic, political and social changes impacting South Asia Lisa M Iodice INT-610 Over the next two years, emerging markets in Asia are expected to be at the top of global growth projections, with growth forecast to be more than 5 percent in 2015 (for comparative purposes, US growth is expected to be around 3 percent (Robinson, 2015). For South Asia, India tops the list of emerging markets with forecasted growth between 5 and 6 percent. In a region that has the world’s largest concentration of poor people, India is set to lead the region in economic growth due to an increase in growth of over 5 percent and 6 percent in 2015 and 2016, respectively (World Bank, 2014). Exports growing in the double digits, combined with diversification of exports will help buoy this economic growth. South Asia’s growth will also be helped by an increase in labor costs in the East Asia region, with the outcome being that South Asia has the potential to become a hub of manufacturing. The recovering U.S. economy may support India’s growth by providing a market for both service and merchandise exports. Political turmoil in Pakistan may have
