Principles of Communications 2 Problem 1 (Bandpass Modulation) Digital data is to be transmitted over a bandpass channel with bandwidth 1MHz . Determine the maximum bit rate that can be supported by the channel with 90% in-band power in each of the following three cases: 1) The data is modulated using BASK . 2) The data is modulated using BFSK , where the frequency offset is set to be half of the bit rate. 3) The data is modulated using BPSK .
Principles of Communications 3 Solution 1) The required channel bandwidth of BASK with 90% in- band power is 2 R b , which is bounded by 1MHz. Therefore, the maximum bit rate is then 500 kbps. 2) The required channel bandwidth of BFSK with 90% in- band power is 2 R b + 2 Δ f = 3 R b Therefore, the maximum bit rate is 333 kbps. 3) The maximum bit rate of BPSK is the same as that of BASK.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
