A 10 m layer of saturated clay ( = 18 kN/m3) overlies gravel. The piezometric level in the gravel is at the ground surface (i.e. the water level in a piezometer inserted into the gravel rises to the ground surface) and remains at the ground surface. How deep of an excavation can be made into the clay before uplift occurs? Depth of excavation (m) 2. Soil borings made at a site indicate that the top 12m is loose sand with the ground water table at 6m below the ground surface. Below this is a fairly soft blue-gray silty clay with average water content of 35%. The boring was terminated at 24m below the ground surface when a fairly stiff silty clay was encountered.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
