1 TA: Angela Chang Section: Thu 5-5:50pm HSS 2321 [email protected] OH: Thu 4pm HSS 1145A BIPN 100 PROBLEM SET WEEK 3 SYNAPSE 1. When an action potential reaches the end of the axon (axon terminal), it must transmit the signal to the next cell. Label the diagram below of an axon terminal. 2. In order, list the events that occur when the action potential reaches the axon terminal. 1) Action potential reaches the axon terminal. 2) This local depolarization causes voltage-gated Ca++ channels to open 3) Ca++ will flow in 4) Ca++ causes vesicles to migrate to terminal membrane. 5) V-snares and T-snares aid in vesicle fusion. 6) Neurotransmitters released into synaptic cleft POST-SYNAPTIC POTENTIALS 3. Neurotransmitters released from the pre-synaptic cell binds to two types of receptors: 1. Ligand-gated receptor – Opens ion channel 2. G protein coupled receptor – signal transduction cascade 4. Will opening of the following ion channels cause an Excitatory Post-Synaptic Potential (EPSP) or an Inhibitory Post-Synaptic Potential (IPSP)?

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
