IA: Adrian Bahn Friday 2:00-2:50 Peterson 104 Week 3 Questions 1. A consequence of severe dehydration can be increased muscle spasms/cramps. How would you explain this knowing what you know about sodium and potassium concentrations and action potentials? Severe dehydration could lead to hyperkalemia and hypernatremia as you concentrate all the solutes in your body. Hyperkalemia would lead to a higher resting membrane potential, making it easier for action potentials to fire. Hypernatremia would increase the amplitude of the action potential, making action potentials stronger. Both would result in more stimulation of muscles and lead to muscle spasms. 2. List the sequence of events involving a neuronal acetylcholine signal, starting from the initial graded potential up to and ending with the termination of the chemical signal. Depolarizing graded potential -> action potential -> Ca-2+ signal -> acetylcholine release from vesicles -> binding acetylcholine receptors

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
