Understanding how the NSI works Central focus- the Firm. Crucial for evaluating what works and what does not work in the national innovation system. Understand which categories firms belong to 1. Firms which introduce radical and new innovations 2. Early followers which Debug innovations and give feedback to innovators 3. Late followers & users who absorb and use the new technologies (rate of absorption drives economic growth) Economic performance impacted by distribution of above firms, competence level in each group and communication & interaction between firms.
