Introduction KIMEP University (formerly Kazakhstan Institute of Management Economics and Strategic Research) is an institution of higher education in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Established in January 14, 1992 by a resolution of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, it is the oldest and the largest US-style University in Cental Asia. KIMEP is a private, non-profit university, which offers a credit-based, North American-style degree curriculum. Situated in the center of Almaty, at the crossroads of Dostyk and Abay, it occupies premises of the former Central Training School of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan. KIMEP has been among the first private institutions of higher education founded in the former Soviet Union. A non-profit joint-stock company, KIMEP University’s is overseen by an independent Board of Trustees that are elected by its shareholders. Day-to-day operations are held by Chan Young Bang Ph.D, KIMEP University’s President, KIMEP University’s Executive Committee and a dedicated administrative staff composed of both Kazakhstani and international staff. KIMEP University is entirely student-financed and features student representation on all management committees. This focus on students and their well-being is the foundation for all of KIMEP University’s operations.
