Michael Nguyen TA: Natalie Goddard Section 9 3/10/16 Lab Question 9 1) Choanoflagellate are the closest relative. 2) Two apomorphies are multicellularity with division of labor and the presence of the protein collagen. 3) Two apomorphies aquiferous system and spicules. 4) The aquiferous system in poriferans work by bringing water throughout the sponge and close to the cells responsible for food gathering and gas exchange. 5) Structures and materials that make up the skeletal system of poriferans are amoebocytes that form the skeletal fibers and are embedded in the mesohyl matrix of the sponge. This is stiffened by a skeleton of minute fibers of calcium called spicules. Fibers can also be made up of a collagen-based protein called sponging. Water comes through tiny holes called ostia and exits large holes called oscula. 6) Two apomorphies are presence of true tissues and presence of two germ layers, the endoderm and the ectoderm 7) An apomorphy is the possession of stinging or adhesive cells called cnidae.
