Writing a Thesis for your Proposal Argument Your thesis statement should be stated in one or two sentences. Many Instructors and Professors of Composition prefer and/or suggest that you write your thesis in only one sentence; opinions vary. You decide based on what is best for your particular paper. In an argument, you will need a topic, and a claim. However, in your proposal argument, you must have a topic , a claim , and a call to action . Each part will build on the previous one. EXAMPLE Topic: College education, diversity, disenfranchisement and academic freedom. Topic + Claim: USC Upstate faculty should have had the freedom to teach Out Loud: the Best of Rainbow Radio , a book that deals with the diverse and often disenfranchised group of gay and lesbian people in South Carolina, without the financial penalty imposed by the South Carolina Legislature. Topic + Claim + Call to Action = Thesis (one sentence) USC Upstate faculty should have had the freedom to teach Out Loud: the Best of Rainbow Radio

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
