Objectives 1. Analyze complex structural systems made up of slender elements (i.e., trusses and frames) 3. Develop a thorough understanding of the stiffness method of analysis: assumptions, limitations, detailed computational procedures 2. Become more familiar with the modeling process: idealization of real structures into mathematical models that can be quantitatively analyzed 4. Introduce energy methods in structural mechanics in order to study more general structures (e.g., plates, shells, massive solids such as dams, etc.)
