This individual is considered by many as the founder of the science of aerodynamics  because of his pioneering experiments with wing design and the effects of lift and drag. George Cayley Samuel P. Langley had an advantage in his attempts at powered flight that was not  available to the Wright brothers. This advantage was: funding from Congress The national government contributed to the opening of the western portion of the United  States by giving land to the railroads for the roadbed on which the line of road could be built., giving  land adjacent to the rail line for use in the building of towns and industry, guaranteeing  railroad bonds, which were sold to the public. Wilbur Wright demonstrated the capabilities of his aircraft and piloting skills to an  unbelieving audience outside Paris in: 1908
