IPv6 Addressing The following information was gathered from various articles obtained from the world- wide-web pertaining to IPv4 and IPv6 addressing. IPv is short for internet protocol version 4 and 6 and it represents unique addresses to identify computers. There are 3 governing bodies that assign and are responsible for the management of IP addresses. American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) is a nonprofit corporation responsible for managing Internet number resources for Canada, many Caribbean and North Atlantic islands and the United States. ARIN has had the responsibility of managing IP addresses since December 1997, which was formerly managed by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). IANA is a department of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and responsible for keeping the Internet running smoothly. IANA coordinates the
