“I Too, sing America” I too, sing America, unlike the America that the poet Langston Hughes wrote of in his poem, but, a different America. I am a black man, raised in a single parent household, the youngest of six children. I have 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Through my years of life I have not had the opportunity to experience racism. I grew up in the 60’s, in the middle of the civil rights movement. I don’t remember marches in the streets, but, I do remember the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Kennedy brothers. I have seen Klu Klux Klan rallies on news programs, only ten miles from my house, joined a predominately white church in 1968 and attended elementary school in a predominately white neighborhood. In all that time, I still wasn’t faced with racism. I’m sure it was still going on around me, as it is still prevalent in society today. When I listen to my mother in her struggle to raise us, saving 25 cents a week to raise money for a down payment on a house, the jobs she endured working for pennies a week.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
