PENN STATE UNIVERSITY Subject: Supply Chain Management Course Number: SCM 301 Topic: Final Exam Format: Part II Instructor: Dr. Joseph Jang Due: In Class Exam Day/University Scheduled. 1. Compare and contrast domestic and global logistics operation. Domestic logistics focuses on performing movement and storage activities to support supply chain integration in a relatively stable and consistent environment. Global logistics must support operation in a variety of different national, political, and economic settings while also dealing with increased uncertainty associated with the distance, demand, diversity and documentation of international commerce. In terms of complexity, global operations, in contrast to domestic operations, are characterized by increased uncertainty, increased variability, decreased control, and decreased visibility. 2. Describe the logistics characteristics of a firm moving toward a globally integrated enterprise strategy. There are four types of development stages such as no international strategy, multi-domestic strategy, global strategy, and transnational strategy. Their characteristics from the perspective of 1) service focus, 2) marketing strategy, 3) delivery strategy, 4) management strategy, and 5) human resource strategy. While there are increased synergies in service, marketing and operations to be gained as the firm evolves from no international strategy to a transnational strategy, there are also increase challenges relative to management and human resources development. Multi-domestic, global, and transnational strategies can influence logistic decision on a number of dimensions. First, sourcing and resource choices may be influence by artificial constraints. Second, logistics to support global operations increases planning complexity. Third, global operations extend domestic logistics systems and practices to a broad range of locations and operating environment. 3. Discuss how product variations, security and import constraints, and transportation uncertainty should impact global outsourcing and marketing decisions.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
