Running head: CONNECTION BETWEEN THEORY AND PRACTICE 1 A grand theory has elevated generalization so that it’s able to cover the broad scope of nursing profession (CCN, 2015). Relationship between grand theories and nursing practice is viewed in its framework of use in practice. Theory builds the perspective for practice. Grand theories seems to have a huge amount of abstract but at the same time grand theories have a big potential and morphology that says what it is like to be a nurse and serve people, and what goals are to be achieved by nursing interventions. A grand theory must have all the paradigms of nursing profession, which are health, person, environment, and nursing (Parker & Smith, 2010). One such theory, which is an imperative part of nursing profession and around which the whole nursing profession revolves, is Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring. This theory addresses all the paradigms of nursing profession as follows. Person is the patient who is being tended to, valued and supported. Environment of caring is every culture, it is diffused by the philosophy of living. Nursing is a science of interpreting health, illness and personal experiences. Health is the balance of mind, body, and soul. Jean Watson’s theory has characteristics of selflessness, trust, optimism, compassion, belief in creating trussing relationship of
