Phlebitis is acute inflammation of the vein, which can be caused by chemical, mechanical or infectious irritation. Allowing only trained personnel to use and maintain IV catheter and also checking there competency periodically was helpful. Appropriate staffing also proved to be helpful in preventing phlebitis.
