Be able to briefly explain what a catalyst is, and the distinction between those factors that determine whether a given reaction is favored or spontaneous versus those that determine whether it proceeds quickly or slowly. 2. Be able to define the term “activation energy”. Be able to draw and label the energy diagram for a reaction (Free energy versus progress) showing the activation barrier and the diagram for the same reaction in the presence of a catalyst. 3. Be able to list three or four ways in which an enzyme catalyst can help speed the rate of a chemical reaction. 4. While no ironclad rules exist for predicting what molecular mechanism nature employs to accomplish a specific task, in general the various modes of regulation exhibit strengths and limitations that explain observed trends. Be able to state what the major strength and limitations are for feedback inhibition, partial proteolysis, protein phosphorylation regulation of gene expression.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
