Unformatted text preview: Installing Openssh-­‐Server By Steve Harrison Step 1: Download Openssh on both the client and server VM ~$ sudo apt-­‐get update ~$ sudo apt-­‐get install openssh-­‐server Step 2: Configure public/private rsa keys on the client server ~$ ssh-­‐keygen –t rsa –b 4096 Press enter to save the keys to your home directory Press enter twice to skip the option to add a passphrase to the keys Step 3: Next we will copy the public key from the client VM over to the ssh server VM Enter the following command on the client VM ~$ ssh-­‐copy-­‐id [email protected] Enter the username and password for the account on the server VM Exit the ssh connection if needed from the client VM Step 4: On the server VM change default ssh port ~$ sudo nano /etc/ssh/sshd_config Edit the configuration as displayed below Change – “Port 22” to “Port 4444” Change – “PermitRootLogin without-­‐password” to “PermitRootLogin no” Change – “#PasswordAuthentication yes” to “PasswordAuthentication no” Step 5: Save and exit the configuration file Step 6: Reload the sshd service on the server VM ~$ sudo service ssh restart Step 7.
