RUNNING HEAD: Are We Really Born that Way? Jacob Tanner Navarrette The nature vs. nurture debate has been going on for some time now. The development of individuals is a long and trying process for not only the individual but those around. The saying “it takes a village to raise a child” cannot be more true. Although a lot of our development comes from within and without stimulus even more comes from our environment and those around us. The psychological need to be accepted and to be a part of a community is a huge part of our development. We learn to speak because we want to connect and feel included. We do have a pre disposition to learn language but without the interaction and teaching of others around us it would not develop as well or as rapidly as it does for us. This goes along with learning to use any type of tool or piece of technology. Our pre dispositions we possess to develop are crucial to our development in the sense that if we didn’t have them we wouldn’t ease into learning new things as we do. It’s like coming
