Cindy San February 24, 2016 Week 8 Reading Questions (Week 8): Lukianoff and Haidt Scholarly? o No. it’s an essay Trigger warnings o Dicsuss certain illness PTSD Trauma based stuff o Trigger warnings are recent phenomenon of higher education o Came about because some students felt the need to be warned that they would have to discuss topics that would make them feel bad somehow that there needed to be a system o Ie Rape law(if person has been raped) can bring a lot of negative stuff attached to it, a lot of heinous stuff happens when trauma happens to body o Select 4 classes ie. bio = dissecting o There to protect students from harm o PTSD or Law = Rape law o Or bio = Christian religion o Literature classes = may be about suicide… o More humanity centric compared to science centric o Students asked for Trigger warnings o Article argues that it has become less about obligation that topic will trigger student and more about students wanting to be protected from offense
