Chronic Disease Assessment 1 Chronic Disease Risk Assessment Alan Barros SCI/162 10/25/2013 Ginger Meyer Chronic Disease Risk Assessment The disease assessment I have chosen was for the risk of a stroke. A stroke occurs when a blood supply suddenly fails to reach part of the brain. The portion of the brain that has not received a constant blood flow becomes impaired, sometimes causing difficulty of speech and death. An individual that has suffered a stroke is treated with rehabilitation, which in some cases is partially effective. Risk Factors Risk factors of a stroke include obesity, lack of physical fitness, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, and stress. With a healthier behavior, an individual could greatly reduce their risk and prevent having a stroke. While these risk factors are preventable, unfortunately there are some nonmodifiable risk factors such as race and ethnicity, heredity, age, and gender. For example, the risk of a stroke increases with age for both sexes.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
