Montresor not being sure of this man said “Who must you be?”. With a quick sly remark Fortunato said, “The man taking out your sister!”. Montresor could help but notice the sinister smile Fortunato had, which made him very uneasy about the whole situation. Right when Montresor was about to say something, Emily came running down the massive spiral stair case kissed him on the check and left with Fortunato. As he was closing the oak doors and looking out of the opening he whispered to himself. “Why is he still looking back, it is as if he knows I am watching them”. Moments later Emily and her date step in the horse drawn carriage and were gone from Montresor sight. “Look how nice it is today and the water looks so beautiful” Fortunato replies “Yes it does I have got something special planned for us tonight.” Emily was intrigued never had a man been so kind and polite to her, but also wondering where Fortunato was going to take her. The way he was mysterious and so nice at the same time made it very easy for her to open up to him. As he handed her a glass of very expensive wine in a soft voice he said “you are very beautiful” “and you are very handsome.” The manner in which he presented himself, she could help but feel like they knew each other much longer than they did.
