“FOG” BY CARL SANDBURG One must look at the time period and events that had taken place to truly understand the comparison that’s being made here. This poem was written when the depression had struck every one in what seemed to be as a matter of moments. When looking at he confusion and panic that the was felt by the people when this happened was like the fog in the poem. It seemed to of appeared suddenly as did the confusion for all those in that time period. Then when action was taken as the fog disappears without warning so did the

Many advancements were being made for our convenience that we no longer required a dependence on nature. With this the people then and now don’t stop and see the beauty in nature. They are surrounded by the moment that they no longer appreciate nature. This is what William saw and why his poem reflects that type of attitude to help them understand what they are missing out....
