CAPSTONE DISCUSSION 2 Capstone Discussion The Sarbanes Oxley Act was signed and put into place by President George Bush, on July 30, 2002. The Sarbanes Oxley Act was put into place because several companies were conducting fraud inside of their accounting departments. The act mandated all business were to adhere to a strict policies. Companies are to take responsibility for any financial documents and accounting frauds. (Greene) The role of internal controls in complying with Sarbanes Oxley Act is to focus more on what information businesses are providing and whether or not the information is precise and accurate. There is also two main components of internal control. These are application software and data and also reliability of financial reporting. (Greene)

If failure to comply with the act is committed, criminal penalties will be put into effect. (Greene) The Congress has made an attempt to try to make sure the people who purchase items, or even just invest into their business are comfortable and at ease with handing over their money to others.
