RECOGNIZING DIFFERENCES 2 Recognizing Differences Throughout the course of this paper, I will be differentiating between valuation, depreciation, amortization, and depletion. I will also explain whether or not it is appropriate to calculate depreciation using two different methods. Concluding with an answer to why or why not it is acceptable. Valuation is “the process of determining the current worth of an asset or company.” (Brief overview, 2014) There are several accounting methods when using valuation. A companies valuation is very important because what is written on the company’s financial statement need to be accurate and precise. Depreciation is “an income tax deduction that allows a taxpayer to recover the cost or other basis of certain property.” (Accounting, 2008) There are many types of tangible property.
