The final report is due in the 12 th week in your tutorial. n Final exam (30%) – 13 th week n In order to pass this course, students must Attempt ALL assessment tasks Attain an overall pass mark of 50% Attend at least 80% of scheduled classes

3 Final Exam n Final exam questions will be released on Friday, 31 October and your answers will be due on Monday, 3 November. n You will be submitting your exam through Turnitin. n The final exam will be comprehensive, covering Japan, Korea and China. n There will be 3 questions. n You will be asked to bringing in materials from the course (lecture notes, readings, cases, etc., but only the class materials) in your answers. n There will be word limits for each question. 4 Guanxi vs. Guanxi Practice n The distinction between Guanxi and Guanxi Practice Guanxi: social networks or social relationships Guanxi practice: Use of one’s guanxi or social relationships to manufacture obligations or indebtedness or institutional systems of exchange system through which relationships are commodified. n In China’s urban economy at least, increasingly there is a growing distinction between guanxi and guanxi practice. n Large firms are increasingly distancing themselves from “deviant” or “crooked” ways of guanxi practice. n At the same time, man view social relationships or networks (guanxi) as critical for market economies and successful business practice.
