Hello professor and Classmates, Give an example of security through obscurity in a computer situation. Give an example of security through obscurity in a situation not involving computers. Is security through obscurity an effective countermeasure in either example? Why or why not? How would the physical security aspect of protecting computer assets relate in this case? Make sure to give some examples. Pfleeger and Pfleeger (2012) identify security through obscurity as a “term used to describe the ineffective countermeasure of assuming the attacker will not find a vulnerability” (pg. 194). A situation dealing with computers would be to disregard a known vulnerability such as a scan report showing http flaws in a web server on the fact that it wouldn’t be found by an attacker. A situation of security through obscurity that does not involve computers would be leaving a vehicle unlocked because of a quick trip in the store. Assuming that the short amount of time wouldn’t allow an intruder the time to gain access before the owner returned.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
