Netflix was originally founded in 1997 by two engineers and by 1999, the business had started its first monthly subscription strategy which then advanced to becoming an online movie streaming enterprise in 2007. “By now subscriptions were increasing by leaps and bounds: Three years later, the service had topped 20 million subscribers” (www.cnn.com; 2014 “A brief history of Netflix”) The distinctive competence of Netflix is their ability to continually modify and revise their business methods; their innovation and skill in targeting and providing on-demand movies to all levels of the economy. This is what allows them to perform better than their rivals; their strength in providing distinct value to their customers. Their core competency originally was being able to provide movies to families in a convenient and unique way, but now that there is Amazon Prime, Hulu, Sling, and more, their core competency is that they provide their own line
