Assignment 3 Explain the difference between authorization and access control? Why is there a need for access control? - After the identification and Authentication of user, the system moves to the next step of deciding what the party can access and what the user is authorized to do. The system will decide whether the user is allowed or denied to access the resources. This is mainly done by Authorization and Access Control. Authorization enables us to determine, once we have authenticated the party, exactly what the user is allowed to do. Authorization s are implemented with the help of Access Controls. It is very important that the right person gets access to right actions. This goal is achieved by using the Principle of Least Privilege. This principle says that we should allow only bare minimum access to the user. The user of X field of the company should not be allowed to access the files of Y field of the company and vice versa. By carefully following the principle of least privilege when configuring system, we can take away some of the more easily accessed tools that attackers can use against us. - In short Authorization allows us to specify whether the party should be allowed or denied access, and Access Control enables us to manage this access at a very granular level.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
