ASSIGNMENT 4 In regards to accountability, businesses suffer from the Big Brother syndrome or the complete opposite. How do companies find a happy medium? - Accountability is very vital in businesses and companies. It provides us with number of capabilities, when properly implemented which can be of great use for security and information technology in our organization. It is important for organizations to maintain accountability to ensure that they are in compliance with the rules and regulations associated with the types of data they handle, or the industry in which they operate. Accountability depends on Identification, Authentication and Access Control so that we can know who a given transaction is associated with and what permission is he being granted. - Accountability is sometimes considered bad as the employees or the users feel that they are being constantly watched and this does not allow them to work freely. Though accountability is important, it should be carried out in an organized fashion. Depending on the size and the working of the organization, the intensity and the frequency of accountability should be decided. For a Business which works on small scale or a system that has less load should not be monitored frequently. It is said that “Too many cooks spoils the broth.” Monitoring in short intervals can bring a feeling of awkwardness in the minds of employees which is not good for organization. In the same way if the company completely stops observing their system can hamper the performance of the system and can lead to deterioration of equipment. If the system has too many confidential files and information, it is too be watched and updated for security reasons and accountability for such systems should be done frequently. If a system is in partial use then it is fine if we monitor them half yearly or once a year. In this way we can
