Novell was definitely seen as the leader in network operating systems when they were first introduced and for a long time after that. When Novell arrived in 1983 it was considered the major player for print and file servers and file sharing. Local area networks were able to file share and that was huge. After about twenty years more companies came into the mix and Novell found that they had some competition. One of the difficulties of the first NOS was that everything had to have the same protocol. This made it very difficult, and in the end was the real downfall for Novell. You would think that having been the market leader for such a long time that they would have stayed on top of things and that they would have been able to easily overtake Microsoft since it was just starting out. However because of the different restrictions and using different protocols, integrating them was a problem. Once companies started to integrate different kinds of systems, interoperability patches were a must.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
