CASE STUDY WARREN 2 Introduction In order for this new location to run smoothly, a local area network must be installed. The goal is to provide a simple network design that makes sense for both the company and the new location. The layout of the office space and locations of outlets will be taken in to consideration when planning the network design. Economics will also be considered, so we will take into consideration the cost of the project and the maintenance. This will keep things simple and reliable for an office of this size. LAN Information The basic set up of this LAN is fairly simple and too keep it simple I suggest using star topology Ethernet design. Since the connections will be office computers in multiple areas and mobile devices, this type of topology should serve the location perfectly. We will utilize Ethernet Cat 5 cables that are capable of transmitting with a transfer rate of 1 gigabit per second. We will also use a Layer 2 switch. It is the most commonly used switch and will provide a separate connection for each node within the company. Storage File Server For a small office such as this, I would recommend an online file server. This would allow all employees to share information over the network easily with less maintenance by an IT staff. Using a cloud server would allow for all devices, including wireless devices to easily
