PB 4 Discuss two effects of the environment on physiological processes. Brain plasticity is the brain’s ability to rearrange neural pathways based to new experiences to learn. Environmental factors can alter physiological processes, brain adapts in response to environment in particular enrichment of certain environments and the activation of mirror neurons when observing experienced actions. Mirror neurons are neurons that fire when performing an action or watching someone performing the same action (mirroring the behaviour). help in brain plasticity known as learning, Enrichment - Rosenzweig and Bennett (1972) A – study effect of enrichment and deprivation on development of neurons in cerebral cortex M – 2 groups of rats, enrichment and deprivation (toys and no toys. Spent 30 or 60 days and their brains were studied R – enriched increased cortical thickness, denser frontal lobe (associated with thinking, planning, decision making)
