Why is the study important in a general way to science and society? The biological significance is often related to the key concepts we discuss in recitation. Helpful hints : Mention what variable you manipulated or tested and the response variable. HYPOTHESES: What are the null and alternative hypotheses? NULL HYPOTHESES: There will be no difference in rate of heat gain or loss between the one sheet of aluminum foil (control) and the 3 sheets of aluminum foil (treatment) in sun (lap) environment. There will be no difference in rate of heat gain or loss between the one sheet of aluminum foil (control) and the 3 sheets of aluminum foil (treatment) in the hot surface (heating pad) environment. ALTERNATIVE HYPOTHESES: There will be a difference in rate of hear gain or loss between the one sheet of aluminum foil (control) and the 3 sheets of aluminum foil (treatment) in sun (lap) environment. There will be a difference in rate of hear gain or loss between the one sheet of aluminum foil (control) and the 3 sheets of aluminum foil (treatment) in the hot surface (heating pad) environment. INTRODUCTION: What is the experimental question and general biological significance to science and society? Our experimental question is, “Does size impact the rate of heat loss or gain from an organism?” This is significant to science and society because one of the crucial characteristics of life is the ability to regulate and maintain a relatively constant internal environment, which is homeostasis. In our experiment we see how size of an organism plays a role in the rate of heat transfer, and how an organism regulates their body temperature.
