EEX2000 Homework Assignment #2 The Unusual Suspects Viewing Guide KEY Name: Sarah Sherr (7827-9590) Respond to the items below based upon information from the video The Unusual Suspects. Profile 1: Tom Shakespeare 1. How does Dr. Shakespeare say disability was perceived in the past (what type of model)? Under that model, who was in charge of decisions about people with disabilities? Dr. Shakespeare states that in the past, disability was perceived as a medical problem, but is now perceived as a social problem. Under the social model, we must ask ourselves, “what is wrong with the environment that keeps the person from being able to function?” in order to gain civil rights. Therefore, society is in charge of making decisions about people with disabilities. Profile 2: Karen Sihed 2. One of the overarching issues that Karen faced during her school experience was access. Briefly describe one way her access was restricted because of her disability and how her life after school was impacted by the restrictions placed on her in school.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
