Aurum furniture started by Patrick Aurum Patrick expanded the business and took his sons Ray and Jeffery on board His daughter, Jan, is also a shareholder on the board (along with his sons and wife) Jan’s husband decides to join the family business right as a recession hits, and the furniture store falls on hard times John mainly serves as a mediator, but he has a lot of knowledge of business and financials John is forced to earn his place in the family, despite being married to Jan for 20 years John implements new systems, and brings in three times the revenue the company brought in in 2000 (the year before the recession) John has an offer from a news network in California He’s been working for Aurum for 4 years, and has almost capped upward mobility New job pays 30% more He would have to uproot his wife, and the cost of living would be more More opportunity What decision needs to be made?

Unformatted text preview: John needs to decide whether he will uproot his wife and move to California for a job in television. ²he job pays 30% more than his current job, but the cost of living in CA is slightly higher. What would you do? Why? I think that John should get back into television immediately. ³irst of all, with him only just being added to the board, I think that his upward mobility is completely capped. Although it doesn’t make good business sense, the brothers will get the business and John’s life will become confusing and horrible, as his job will primarily become that of mediator between the two brothers. He’s done his part in turning the business around, and he has a great opportunity to get back into the career path he only le´ for a short Tme to get out of the pressure cooker for a while. I think if his wife will be willing to move, he should go for it. If she isn’t, he should keep looking for posiTons in the area that get him out of the family business....
