Please note: this is NOT all inclusive. I discuss some concepts and give some suggestions for your formula sheet, but this by no means includes everything you should know/consider putting on your sheet for this exam. The 5 “Famous” Discrete Distributions: 1. Bernoulli( θ ) : For a single success/failure trial (i.e. X can only be 0 or 1) 2. Binomial(n,p) : For counting the number of success out of a fixed number of trials (sampled from a relatively large population) 3. Hypergeometric(n,M,N) : For counting the number of success out of a fixed number of trials, sampled from a relatively small population 4. Negative Binomial(r,p) : For counting the number of failures before we see some specified number of successes; in other words, counting until we meet some specified condition (total number of trials is not fixed) 5. Poisson(μ) : For counting the number of successes over some specified interval of time (e.g. an hour, a day) or space (e.g. a yard of fabric or a sheet of plywood) Above are general descriptions of when to use each distribution. For each, your notes give more

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
