September 2015 ASTD Journal Articles Andreatta, B. (2015, September). Six Tips for Working With the Brain to Create Real Behavior Change [Electronic Version]. T&D. This article provides six key principles to help individuals develop better study habits, build memories and increase the brain's ability to learn. These takeaways can change the way professionals approach training design and delivery going forward. The first tip is for professionals to have a better understanding how the brain operates. The brain must be worked within its natural mechanisms to increase learning. The second tip focuses on designing learning climates that assist people to focus and avoid multitasking when gathering information. The third tip connects new data to something we already know. The fourth tip is for individuals who are learning new material to try and recall information a minimum of three times for long term memory. The fifth tip is to train people over time so they can sleep in between and retain information. The last tip is to design habits better than those currently in use.
