What is your observation about the design of the integrated supply chain? Do you think it worked for Boeing? Why or why not? What are some ideas which could have improved the program? Background According to the Boeing 2006 Annual Report: “ Boeing is a global market leader in design, development, manufacturing, sale and support of commercial jetliners, military aircraft, satellites, missile defense, human space flight and launch systems and services. Boeing is one of the two major manufacturers of 100+ seat airplanes for the worldwide commercial airline industry and the second – largest defense contractor in the US”(p 23). Boeing was considered a traditional aircraft manufacturer company. They were also known to be at the forefront in terms of product and process innovation. In 2005, the company started the design of Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Unlike previous aircrafts designed by this company, this aircraft had a completely new design. At the same time, the company was implementing the “+Lean initiative” to improve productivity in several product lines.
