Unformatted text preview: the crew to lose their situational awareness. This was a completely preventable accident that was caused by a distraction from another perceived emergency. I think in this situation the whole crew is at fault and this accident would not have happen if the pilot had not gotten completely fixated on the gear problem and giving the flight attendants all the time they needed to prepare the passengers for evacuation instead of determining how much time they had then giving a time limit. If the first officer and the flight engineer had made more of a point to demand the captain listen to them and plan a landing earlier when the fuel was beginning to get to low before it was too late....
