CVG2116 LABORATORY MANUAL Winter 2016 1.0LABORATORY SAFETY RULES Students, Teaching Assistants, Technical Officers and Course Instructors observing and/or operating equipment in the Water Resources Laboratory at the University of Ottawa are required to follow specific laboratory safety rules. These rules are intended to prevent potential hazards from occurring. It is imperative that occupants/users of the Water Resources Laboratory adhere to the basic safety protocols below. Please refer to Appendix A which contains the General Water Resources Safety Rules. General Housekeeping : o The occupants/users of the water resources laboratory are expected to keep their surrounding working place clean and tidy. o A sufficient and safe clearance must be maintained regarding work stations, benches, fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, and other emergency aids. o A one (1) meter clearance must be respected between all walkways and aisles in order to provide unobstructed exits in case of emergency evacuations and in order to prevent potential tripping hazards. o Students must always be supervised while observing and/or operating equipment in the Water Resources Laboratory. Teaching Assistants, course instructors and Technical Officers visiting the Water Resources Laboratory must complete the WHIMIS and Laboratory Safety courses. o Students must remain within the designated areas of the Water Resources Laboratory. o In case of any emergency, please consult the Technical Officer who is present on the site premises. o The workplace must follow the regulations pertaining to hazardous chemicals if they are being used as part of a laboratory experiment or course project.

CVG2116 LABORATORY MANUAL Winter 2016 o The students must not enter the Water Resources Laboratory with any bags or coats. Such items must be stored in lockers outside of the laboratory premises. Notebooks or log books are allowed to be brought by the students in the laboratory. o Food and drink must not be brought or consumed in the Water Resources Laboratory.
