Dan Barrecchia Chapter 16 Homework Drug Testing: Given in an attempt to keep employee drug use from happening. Became significantly practiced after the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 was passed. Depending on what is being tested for and how often, it can be useful and/or hurtful to a company’s employees. Ergonomics: Adapting the job to the worker rather than trying to adapt the worker to the job. Can lead to a less stressed employee and ultimately a happier work environment. After all, if people are uncomfortable, they aren’t going to enjoy themselves. Living Wage: A wage that enables employees to have a decent standard of living for their family. In America, we don’t always emphasize the importance of a living wage, seeing as our minimum wage is not currently a living wage. Sweatshops: Places, usually in unregulated countries, where workers are exploited and taken advantage of by being forced to work long hours at low wages, under unsafe working conditions.
