Why do some chromosomes in the disease group not carry the disease- causing variant shown in red? 1 Because the disease is complex it is made up of different QTLs. So, the red parts are a single QTL that happens to not have the alleles of the other QTLs had those been present those chromosomes would be diseased. b. Why do some chromosomes in the control group carry the variant shown in red? Because other QTLs could affect the phenotype such as the red variant is not enough to cause disease on its own, or the red variant could cause disease but there are other factors that suppress its effects. c.
