The set of primary documents assigned for this week were all written or distributed during the First World War. How do you think that the war inspired or exacerbated the array of opinions regarding Americans' reproductive rights? I believe that war had many different effects on the opinion of American’s reproductive rights. In one hand, any American men saw the war as the most important event for the country at the time. They enjoyed their elevated status and weren’t prepared to let it change so easily. In the other hand, American women saw the war as an opportunity to slowly but surely obtain equality in many different aspects, such as reproductive rights. “I believe that woman is enslaved by the world machine, by sex conventions, by motherhood and its present necessary child-rearing, by wage-slavery, by middle-class morality, by customs, laws and superstitions” ( Why the Woman Rebel?, p. 1). Women at this time were expected to become mothers, and if they were to work, they didn’t have many occupations to choose from. Many women gave birth
